Non League America Vol. 4: D4 Dominance in Chatt Town

Chattanooga FC has built the most consistent 4th Division winning club in the United States reaching 3 finals in 4 years (winning none). Pushed on by their supporters, the Chattahooligans, they drew 9000 to last years national semifinal.  They also beat their first professional opposition in 2014, the Wilmington Hammerheads 3-1 in the second round of the US Open Cup before getting knocked out by the Atlanta Silverbacks 5-0 in the third round.

Back again in the cup this year, Chattanooga hosted the PDL’s Ocala Stampede in the first round. This is how it all went down.

Non League America Vol. 1: SF City FC US Open Cup

Non League America Vol. 1: SF City FC US Open Cup

The Non League America team was out in San Francisco last week for the historic preliminary round match between supporter owned San Francisco City FC representing US Club Soccer and the re-assembled Wynalda led Open Cup legends Cal FC representing USASA Region IV.  The match posted a record preliminary round attendance of 1519.  We caught up with some of the supporter owners and the head coach, and were treated to a truly exceptional halftime honorarium for all the past San Francisco US Open Cup championship teams, many from the “long lost dark ages” (Pre 1996 MLS entry) when local ethnic based USASA affiliated clubs offered the highest level of competitive football in the United States.  We love to see this kind of reverence for history, and hope to uncover additional historical connections as we investigate the lower division landscape.   Thanks to Evan Ream for the great work.  Check him out on twitter @EvanReam.

USOC Preliminary Round: San Fran City FC vs. Cal FC

USOC Preliminary Round: San Fran City FC vs. Cal FC
On Saturday April 25th, San Francisco City FC (US Club Soccer – NorCal Premier Soccer League) hosted Cal FC (Simi Valley Soccer League – USASA Region IV) in the preliminary round of the 2015 Lamar Hunt Open Cup.   The match was held at Kezar Stadium in front of over 1,500 fans.   The match was a heated contest, but Cal FC was able to walk away the victor after capitalizing on two penalties – the dagger coming in the 88’ due to an SF City FC handball in the box.   Cal FC will now move on to the next round of the Open Cup.  Cal FC does have a rather storied history in the USOC after defeating MLS’ Portland Timbers.  Cal FC was coached by former United States national player and current soccer pundit Eric Wynalda at that time.
